BOLLINGER Special Cuvee
Special Cuvée is the quintessential expression of the Bollinger
style.
On average, 80% of the grapes come from Premiers and Grands Crus
in Champagne. To ensure the consistency and continuity of the style,
Bollinger adds to the blend a maximum of 10% of Reserve wines, which
have been kept in magnum.
The blend consists on average of 60% pinot noir, 25% chardonnay
and 15% pinot meunier, harvested from 30 different villages in Champagne.
Special Cuvée matures for a minimum of three years in Bollinger's
cellars prior to release.
BOLLINGER La Grande Annee 1997
Grande Année, the name, signifies that Bollinger's vintage
champagne is only released during 'great' years.
When such a harvest occurs the House selects its best wines, cru-by-cru
and grape variety by grape variety.
On average, the blend is composed of 65% pinot noir and 35% chardonnay.
Champagne Bollinger PDG, Ghislain de Montgolfier says, Grand Année
1997 is a superb wine.
We could describe it as a blend of the monster '96 and the rich
'89'.
